[00:01] REENA JADHAV: We are on to the next chapter which is chapter eight, which beans not butter for better brains. What is the bean connection with the brains because I know there’s a lot of us very worried about our brains these days.
[00:15] DR. JOEL KAHN: Right now it’s the bigger topic of eating for better brain health beans and all the other plant based options so it’s actually a bit controversial right now. The book I like I referenced is called Alzheimer’s solution and it is written by two doctors in Loma Linda Dr. husband wife team named Sherzai. I will be with them tomorrow I am excited to see them again and they have and Dr. Neil Bernard has very strong data that a plant based diet is you want to keep your cholesterol actually low which plan based diet favor. Irish, magnesium and the broccolis, the chemicals and then in fact one of the biggest causes of dementia is arteries getting clogged up its called vascular blood vascular dementia. Go ahead and enjoy your bacon, your hotdogs, your greasy burgers, your meat based, cheese based, chicken based diet and that’s much more like they were plant based diet. So there’s also although it’s the only plant that may not be great for the brain but certainly it’s a lot of controversy it’s the coconut oils. Okay coconut oil is not a plant coconuts is a plants, we’re processing it to remove all the fat out leaving all that fiber, all the carbohydrates, all the protein or whatever else they do in the process so there is a bit of controversy about that. The comment is made often in the brain is 60% fats so eat butter, eat lamb, eat animal flesh. It has animal fats in that. It’s simply not true okay now in Japan until recently that KFC is there by longest longevity in the world with great brain function and they had very lower fat diets because they ate a lot of plants, a lot of potatoes, a lot of other spices and all and very little in the animal world and they had great brains. It’s another example out so plants for brains keep your arteries open throughout your brain your better brain function there are some good data that depression, anxiety may go down your gastrointestinal systems is more stable with the plant diet. Naturally low on hormones, antibiotics and as your GI tract itself you’re off in your brain and moods are lifted.

[02:42] DR. JOEL KAHN: I got to go back to turmeric again as some very clear data that Alzheimer’s rates it’s an association about buying a packet where people naturally eat a lot of turmeric which is using portions of India and there’s usually very low dementia rates in those areas. So that would be number one blueberries some people call blueberries brain berries. They are very rich antioxidants for better brain function, walnuts, great stuff.
[03:10] REENA JADHAV: Yeah I have heard about walnuts for sure you know it looks like a brain so it’s good for your brain.
